The Measurement Shop
The Measurement Shop is a creative exploration of how we measure complex and simple things and what effect measuring has on the measured thing. How do you measure happiness, hope and pain? As well as age, population and health? The piece places the audience in amongst the performers and is free to access.
“So funny and unexpected. Really enjoyed it”
Members of the public can come in, stay for as long as they want and leave. The project will never be a finished performance, rather an ongoing open exploratory experiment with the audience arriving, measuring and adding to the piece of theatre- it is our aim that The Measurement Shop tours across the UK and opens in cities up and down the country for up to a few weeks before moving on – just like a pop-up shop.
“Great to have something creative/thought provoking in the E&C”
Audience members at Elephant and Castle came in with no appointment necessary, stayed as long as they wanted, measured themselves through interactive exercises and games in the front of shop and were given a tour through to the hidden back rooms behind the shop displays. There, they experienced puppetry stock takes, measuring labs exploring how we measure human emotions, a darkened galaxy of twinkling lights measuring the planet, followed by a very informal cup of tea and chat with the shop assistants.
“Fantastic surprise”
“Wonderful. Enchanting. It is conceptual but not so much to exclude you. You are taken into that world.”
