Workshops: in schools
The company enjoy sharing our working methodology with young people and adults. Workshops with schools and theatre groups are an important part of what we do.
To date over 2500 young people have taken part in workshops or residencies with the company. The format of our workshops can be adapted for any age group, and can run for a couple of hours, to longer residencies of up to a week.
We design each workshop around the specific needs of the group, tailoring the work to complement the components of the GSCE, A level and BTEC curriculums. Some of the skills we explore include devising methods, ensemble work, chorus techniques, devising from a specific stimuli, improvisation, physical theatre, group working and confidence building.
Example: The Wren Academy
t a n g l e d f e e t were specially commissioned by The Wren Academy to create a bespoke creative focus day for the whole of year 8. 10 members of the company spent the day with 160 students investigating how space affects behaviour, how the way we live affects our physicality and how architecture has such a large influence on how we move through our environment. The focus of the day was on process, learning through practical activities involving materials and theatre. The focus was also on ensemble working methods and making work democratically. The day ended with a short sharing of some of ideas that came up in each group.
“To see our students so engaged and making such rapid progress was a delight! It was a rare privilege to work with such a professional team – one with such strong members and no weak links!”
Jane Snowsill, Assistant Principal, Wren Academy
